Sculpting Language
2023
A work with Endangered Languages Archive (ELAR) at the Berlin-Brandenburg Academy of Sciences (BBAW).
Mandarin Chinese, which is promoted as the national language by the government, has become the dominant tougue in schools and media outlets, making it difficult for non-sripted languages to compete and raising the risk of their extinction.
I hail from the Hakka region in southern China, where our language has no script. However, this does not diminish our cultural heritage or the vibrancy of our civilization. The definition of civilization is subjective and can vary widely depending on individual perspectives.
In this artistic process, I engage in the spontaneous act of throwing clay, which leads to the emergence of words by chance. This approach results in a unique and unpredictable outcome.
